Asbestos is a set of six naturally occurring silicate minerals, each comprised of long, thin fibrous crystals. In turn, each visible fibre consists of microscopic fibrils that can be released by abrasion and similar processes.
In 2012, the European Commission determined that British regulations didn’t fully implement its directive to limit asbestos exposure. As such, new legislation was drafted and the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012) came into force.
