North Star Environmental Ltd has earned a strong reputation within its industry for proficiency and probity. This is formally recognised by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), which provides independent verification of our work. We take these unbiased qualifications very seriously, and strive to comply with the latest specifications and standards as they change. Our UKAS accreditation details are outlined below, along with other schemes / trade associations we are part of.
United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS)
UKAS is recognised by the British government to assess, against internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services.
UKAS accreditation provides assurance of the competence, impartiality and integrity of a particular organisation. The credibility of your company will often rest on hiring a suitably qualified consultancy to undertake asbestos sampling and analysis. UKAS accreditation provides a convenient barometer of quality, making life easier for clients.
In the first instance, North Star Environmental Ltd is accredited by UKAS to standard ISO 17025. This enables us to sample for airborne fibre concentrations; commence fibre counting in mobile laboratories; and complete four-stage Certificates of Reoccupation.
Such accreditation also underpins the integrity of our in-house laboratory, where we perform analysis for the presence of asbestos in bulk materials.
We are also accredited by UKAS to standard ISO 17020. This grants us permission to complete a full spectrum of asbestos inspections. We are a Type C Inspection Body, which allows North Star Environmental, as a separate and identifiable entity, to provide inspection services to third party organisations.

Asbestos Testing and Consulting Association (ATaC)
North Star is also a full member of ATaC, the leading trade association for the asbestos inspection and testing industry. ATaC is dedicated to promoting professionalism and safety within this arena, and helps provide qualifications, guidance and support for its members.
Through a strong network of connections, ATaC helps identify UKAS-accredited specialists for specific projects. Members, such as North Star, are seen as elite leaders in the asbestos industry. As such, clients often look towards ATaC for guidance when attempting to find an organisation to undertake surveying and testing work.
In this regard, membership with ATaC can be viewed as a hallmark of excellence, and clients can rest assured that, working alongside member organisations, they are benefiting from the very best services available.
Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP)
SSIP is an umbrella organisation for a variety of assessment schemes that modify standards across the industry.
North Star Environmental Ltd is part of the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS), a founder member of SSIP. This ensures that we have demonstrated compliance with, and sound management of, current basic health and safety legislation.
We also hold membership for SAFE Contractor, the UK’s fastest growing health and safety assessment scheme. Under the terms of this membership, we are cleared to perform asbestos air monitoring and bulk sampling. It also empowers us to act as an environmental consultancy. SAFEcontractor is also part of SSIP.

United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association (UKATA)
UKATA was established to improve standards of training within its dedicated industry. With a remit to raise principles, UKATA audits and manages a list of approved asbestos training providers that must be consulted when arranging such a service.
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 state that relevant training must be provided to anyone likely to encounter or disturb asbestos during their work. North Star Environmental Ltd is partnered with a UKATA-approved training provider, meaning it is capable of leading Category A courses on Asbestos Awareness, Category B courses on Non-Licenced Asbestos Removal and Category C courses on Licensed Asbestos Work.
In the context of aforementioned legislation, this is a pivotal service, and we take tremendous pride in this connection.
